Tallon Griekspoor will face Vasek Pospisil in the First Round of the 2022 Tel Aviv Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday September 27th, 2022 at 9:00am EST.

Tallon Griekspoor is the eighth seed here at the Tel Aviv Open and is ranked 52nd on the ATP Tour. The Dutchman has had a successful 2021 season, winning a shocking eight Challenger titles and doing very well in his introduction to the main tour. However, it has not all been smooth sailing since, struggling to win consecutive matches since the early part of the year. He showed his upside towards the start of 2022, reaching three ATP Quarter-Finals and showing us the potential that he possesses. A First Round exit at the US Open will still be on his mind as he seeks to resurrect his season, but he has a difficult First Round match here against experienced campaigner Vasek Pospisil.

Vasek Pospisil is currently ranked #149 in the world, a far cry from his career high ranking of 25. The Canadian has really seen his game fall off spectacularly over the past few seasons, with injuries taking their toll. He received some luck here at the Tel Aviv Open, getting into the main draw as a Lucky Loser after losing his second Qualifying match to Marius Copil. He has really struggled and doesn’t look himself at all, but he does have a lot of experience, and that together with his big serve and groundies make him pretty dangerous.

As difficult as he has been to trust this season, I am backing Tallon Griekspoor here. He really has not played well since March or so, but Vasek Pospisil has struggled for the past few years and we have not seen anything from him recently to inspire our confidence. A Qualifying Round loss here showed that. Griekspoor is the more solid player at the moment, and I think it is too much to ask from the Canadian to get the win here. Back the Dutchman outright.
