Sassuolo is hosting Milan at Mapei Stadium in round 38 of the Italian Serie A. Sassuolo has been excellent in the attacking end this season, they have scored a ton of goals, but they have been terrible defensively. Milan is on a fantastic run, they are winning games, and they are very close to winning the title.
Sassuolo has won their last game, but that was their first win in their last 5 games. With 50 points, Sassuolo is now in 11th place, and with 64 scored goals, they are among the best offensive teams in the league. Despite that great offense, Sassuolo’s defense has been horrible with 63 conceded goals. Of those 64 goals, Scamacca is the leading goalscorer for Sassuolo with 16 goals, while Berardi added 15 goals and 14 assists. With Sassuolo having so many good players this season, they will inevitably lose a few in the summer, but if they don’t, they will be a very strong team this season. Sassuolo has a few injuries, but they are safe in Serie A, and their season was good overall. I think Sassuolo’s appetites have grown over the season, but there is only so much you can do with a bad defense.
Milan is on a 4-game winning streak right now, while winning 5 of their last 6 games. Milan also hasn’t lost a game in Serie A since January, and thanks to this amazing streak, they are at the top of the table. With only 2 points above Inter, Milan doesn’t have to win this game, but they need at least a point to win the title. Defensively, Milan is the best in the league this season with only 31 conceded goals, while their offense is averaging almost 2 scored goals per game this season, 66 goals in 37 games. Milan has gotten healthy just in time to close out the season, and their offense started producing more goals just in time to stay ahead of Inter. Leao has been Milan’s best player lately, and he is their leading goalscorer with 11 goals and 7 assists. Giroud has 9 goals. Milan is in great form, and it’s hard to imagine they won’t get at least a point against one of the weakest defensive teams in the league.
Milan has lost only 1 game on the road this season, and I don’t think this will be the second one. Sassuolo might very well score here, they are certainly good enough, but Milan knows what they have to do, and they will do it.
