Hertha BSC is hosting RB Leipzig at Olympiastadion in round 23 of the German Bundesliga. Hertha is playing well in most of their games, they are threatening, they are creating chances, but they are not getting a lot of wins. Leipzig is in good form right now, they are still mostly the home team this season, but they are improving on the road as well.
Hertha is without a win in their last 6 games, and they have lost to some of the weakest teams in the league during that streak, including Furth last weekend. With 23 points, Hertha is now in 15th place, they have scored only 24 goals, while their defense is even worse with 45 conceded goals in 22 games. Just in their last 4 games, Hertha has conceded 10 goals, but the good news I suppose is they have scored in each of those games. Jovetic and Richter are the leading goalscorers for Hertha with 5 goals each, and they should both be in the starting lineup here. Hertha has been struggling with injuries this season, and they have quite a few of them at the moment as well. Hertha is close to the relegation zone, and the rest of the season will be very hard for them.
Leipzig has improved massively, and they have only 1 loss in their last 7 games, which was against Bayern, and there is no shame in that. In their Europa League game against Real Sociedad earlier this week, Leipzig was the better team, they have scored 2 goals, but they haven’t been focused enough on the defensive end. The final score of that game was 2-2. After that terrible start of the season, Leipzig is now in 7th place in the standings with 34 points, and they are very close to the Champions League, and I think they will get there. The competition is very strong in Bundesliga this season, especially in the Champions League and the Europa League battle. Halstenberg is the only injured player for Leipzig at the moment. Nkunku has 11 goals and 7 assists this season, while Andre Silva has added 9 goals. I love Leipzig, I love their development style, but I think they need to try harder to keep some of their best players for more than a couple of seasons, and only then Leipzig can try and go for the title in Bundesliga.
Leipzig has only 1 win so far on the road this season, but they are massive favorites here. I think that if Hertha was a bit healthier, they would have had a shot here, but I’m going with Leipzig in this one.
