Aston Villa and Southampton face off on Friday in an English Premier League showdown at Villa Park. When these two teams faced off on March 5th, it was Aston Villa that was able to come away with the 4-0 victory. 

Aston Villa currently sits in 17th place in the standings having picked up four points. Even though Aston Villa haven’t had the best season so far, but they looked good in the last game. They gave up only one goal against Manchester City, and they also scored a goal in the 74th minute to secure the draw. Aston Villa is missing a few key players including Diego Carlos who will still be out for a while. Matty Cash hurt his hamstring in his last game, and he also won’t be available to go in this game. Ashley Young is expected to move back into the starting lineup in this game. 

On the other side of this matchup is Southampton, who sit in 12th place in the standings having picked up seven points. Coming into this game, Southampton has lost two of its last three games, including the last game against the Wolves. Southampton had 49 percent of the possession, but only managed one shot on goal. They gave up a goal in the 45th minute and that was the difference as they were defeated. Valentino Livramento and Romeo Lavia are both dealing with injuries, and they won’t able to go in this game. Ainsley Maitland-Niles came over in the transfer window, and there are rumblings that he could move into the starting lineup for the first time with his new team. 

Aston Villa’s defense was so impressive in the last game against Manchester City, and I expect they are going to continue that success here. Southampton really struggled to find any offense in the last game, and they aren’t going to break the defense of Aston Villa. Aston Villa might only score one goal here, but that is going to be enough to get the job done. Back Aston Villa on the money line.
