The Atlanta Braves and the Washington Nationals meet Tuesday in MLB action from Nationals Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Monday opener, Atlanta posted a blowout win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Atlanta played the Phillies over the weekend. The Braves lost the first two games but won the second pair for a split. On Monday versus Washington, the Braves managed five runs in the sixth inning alone during an 8-0 victory. Bryce Elder posted the complete-game shutout with six hits, one walk and six Ks.
Starter for the Tuesday game will be Atlanta’s Kyle Muller. In two starts this year Muller is 1-1 with a 10.57 ERA. In 7.2 frames total he has nine earned on seven hits and seven walks and eight Ks.
Over on the Nationals’ side, they took on the Marlins over the weekend and lost two of three games. On Monday Washington couldn’t do anything on the scoreboard with six team hits. Starter Coy Abbott managed 5.0 innings, four earned, three hits and three walks.
Starter for the Tuesday matchup will be Washington’s Paolo Espino. In his 40 games (17 starts) so far Espino is 0-7 with a 4.17 ERA. He has 87 strikeouts in 108.0 total innings pitched this year.
PICK: I might take a stab on the Nationals here. Espino has certainly had his ups and downs this season, and he’s still searching for that first win of 2022. That said, Espino has done pretty well on the mound lately. In his last three appearances combined he’s given up two earned in 6.0 innings on nine hits and two walks. If Espino can give Washington five good innings or so I think the Nationals will be in line for a win.
