The New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners meet Monday in MLB action from T-Mobile Park. The Yankees are coming out of a rough series versus the Cardinals, losing the first two games by one run. On Sunday New York lost again for the sweep. As for the Mariners, they just finished up against the Angels. Seattle lost two of the first three, then in the finale the Mariners bagged a three-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

The Yankees couldn’t figure out the Cardinals in the first pair, falling 4-3 Friday and 1-0 in the Saturday matchup. On Sunday New York dropped another one 12-9 despite 16 team hits (giving up 11). Frankie Montas managed 3.0 innings in the start with six earned, five hits and three walks.

For the starter job Monday, the Yankees are going with Jameson Taillon. In 21 starts during 2022 Taillon is 10-2 with a 3.96 ERA. Over 113.2 innings he has 50 earned on 111 hits and 21 walks with 98 strikeouts total.

Over on the Seattle side, they got a 2-1 win in game one of the Saturday doubleheader but otherwise lost 4-3 and 7-1 in the first trio. On Sunday the Mariners took a 6-3 win thanks to four third-inning runs. Marco Gonzales put up 6.0 innings in the start with three earned, eight hits and a walk.

Starting pitcher for Seattle Monday will be Logan Gilbert. This year in 22 starts Gilbert is 10-4 with a 3.09 ERA. In 128.1 frames total he has 44 earned on 116 hits, 36 walks and 120 Ks.

The Yankees are 6-1 in their last seven Monday games and 38-15 in their last 53 in game one of a series. New York is 1-5 in their last six versus the AL West.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are 8-1 in their last nine versus the AL East and 29-12 in their last 41 overall. Seattle is 1-4 in the last five in game one of a series.

PICK: I’m probably going to stay with Seattle. New York just isn’t playing well over the last week or so. Their issues started last week with the Mariners, as the Yankees lost two of three games. Taillon pitched the second matchup, an 8-6 New York loss. In that start, Taillon finished with five earned on two hits and four walks in 4.2 innings. With the way the injured Yankees lineup has been performing lately—and with the inconsistent pen—I’m not sure they’ll have enough firepower to get a victory here.
