The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Sunday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. This will be the finale in a four-game weekend series. The Mets took the Friday opener, then in the Saturday doubleheader New York won game one. Philly struck back with a three-run win during the nightcap, however. New York did pretty well in the Friday game, notching 11 team hits on the way to a 7-2 win. In the Saturday doubleheader the Mets bagged a dominant 8-2 win in game one. In game two, New York was out-hit 11-3 in a 4-1 defeat.
For the starter job in the Sunday matchup, the Mets will send out Jose Butto. This will be Butto’s Major-League debut.
Over on the Phillies’ side, they posted nine hits in the Friday opener but couldn’t score outside of the fifth inning. In the Saturday games Philly couldn’t find much offense on seven team hits during the first outing. In game two Philadelphia scored twice in the third inning and hung on for the win.
Kyle Gibson will take the mound for the Phillies on Sunday. Over his 23 starts so far Gibson is 8-5 with a 4.30 ERA. In 127.2 innings total he has 61 earned, 115 hits, 34 walks and 102 Ks.
PICK: I’m going to try the Phillies here. Gibson has done pretty well in the stats columns lately. He’s given up six earned in 20.0 total innings on 14 hits and three walks over his last three appearances. Gibson is 2-1 during that time, with the only blemish being a tough-luck loss to the Marlins on August 11. I like Gibson to keep it rolling here and put the Phillies in a good spot to win. It should be fun to see how Butto does in his debut, however.
