The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Friday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. The Mets are coming off a series versus the Braves. After losses in two of the first three games, on Thursday New York fell by one run. As for the Phillies, they played the Reds in their last series. Philadelphia managed two wins in three games during that set. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

New York took losses 13-1 and 5-0 to the Braves in their first two games, but then got a 9-7 win Wednesday. In the Thursday finale, the Mets lost 3-2 despite tying the game in the fifth. Starting pitcher Jacob deGrom managed 6.2 innings, three earned, five hits and nine Ks.

For the starter job in the Friday matchup, the Mets will send out Chris Bassitt. In his 22 starts so far Bassitt is 10-7 with a 3.27 ERA. In 135.0 innings total he has 49 earned, 116 hits, 36 walks and 134 Ks.

Over on the Phillies’ side, they did pretty well versus the Reds this week, bagging wins 4-3 Monday and 11-4 Tuesday. In the Wednesday finale, Philadelphia was shut out for the fourth time in seven games by giving up a tough walk-off win 1-0.

Aaron Nola will take the mound for the Phillies on Friday. Over his 23 starts Nola is 8-9 with a 3.07 ERA. In 152.2 innings total he has 52 earned, 121 hits, 21 walks and 165 strikeouts.

The Mets are 14-4 in their last 18 versus a right-handed starter and 22-8 in their last 30 overall. New York is 10-4 in their last 14 road games.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are 7-1 in their last eight at home and 6-1 in their last seven Friday games. Philadelphia is 14-5 in their last 19 versus the NL East.

PICK: I’m going to stay with the Mets. We should have a pretty great pitching matchup with the starters here, though. Bassitt has been great lately. In his last trio he’s got zero earned on 20.0 combined innings, 18 hits and four walks. Bassitt won each of those games as well. As for Nola, he’s doing a nice job himself with three earned in 20.0 innings over his last three starts. I like both starters to do well here and go deep into the game. Should be a fun, low-scoring outcome.
