The Texas Rangers and the Minnesota Twins meet Friday in MLB action from Target Field. Texas is coming off a series versus the A’s. The Rangers lost two of the first three in that set, then on Thursday Texas took a blowout win. As for Minnesota, they played the Royals in their last series and managed a three-game sweep. Texas took a tense 2-1 win in the Monday opener versus the Athletics. Tuesday’s game was a 5-1 defeat, and the Rangers fell again Wednesday 7-2. On Thursday, Texas scored three in the fifth and never trailed during a 10-3 win. Dane Dunning finished with 6.0 innings in the start with two earned on four hits and three walks.

For the starter job in the Friday game, the Rangers will send out Martin Perez. Over his 23 starts this year Perez is 9-3 with a 2.79 ERA. In 142.0 innings total he has 44 earned on 124 hits and 46 walks with 125 Ks.

Over on the Twins’ side, they did well against the Royals in their last set. Minnesota posted a 4-2 win Monday and followed that up with a 9-0 shutout win Tuesday. In the finale Wednesday, Minnesota kept it going with another shutout victory, this time 4-0.

As starting pitcher for the Friday matchup, Minnesota will go with Dylan Bundy. In his 20 starts this year Bundy is 6-5 with a 4.76 ERA. In 98.1 innings total Bundy has 52 earned on 103 hits, 21 walks and 75 Ks.

The Rangers are 57-116 in their last 173 road games and 15-36 in their last 51 Friday games. Texas is 5-15 in their last 20 versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Twins are 5-1 in their last six at home and 8-3 in their last 11 versus a team with a losing record. Minnesota is 2-8 in their last 10 after an off day.

PICK: I’m going to try the Rangers here. Perez had a rough start back on August 9 versus Houston, giving up seven earned on six hits and three walks in 5.0 innings during a loss. That said, in his most recent start Perez posted 6.0 frames of one-run ball with four hits and five walks in a no-decision versus Seattle. If Perez can bag a quality start here—and he’ll have a solid shot at doing so if all goes well—Texas should be in good shape for a potential W.
