The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in an NL Central division matchup in MLB action from American Family Field on Tuesday night.
The St. Louis Cardinals will look to rebound from a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers in their last game. Nolan Arenado has 30 home runs along with 100 RBIs, 41 doubles, 160 hits and a .295 batting average while Tommy Edman has a .261 batting average and 148 hits with 4 triples, 13 home runs and 56 RBIs. Dylan Carlson has 27 doubles, Paul Goldschmidt has a team-high 172 hits, 40 doubles and a .317 batting average with 35 home runs and 112 RBIs while Tyler O’Neill has 58 RBIs as well up to this point in the year. Miles Mikolas will start here and is 11-13 with a 3.35 ERA and 144 strikeouts this season.
The Milwaukee Brewers will try to bounce back after failing to complete the sweep of Cincinnati with a 2-1 loss in Sunday’s series finale. Rowdy Tellez has 33 home runs and 86 RBIs while Hunter Renfroe has 28 homers as well and Willy Adames also has 31 home runs. Renfroe has a .253 batting average and Adames has 96 RBIs. Christian Yelich also has 139 hits with 25 doubles and 53 RBIs and Andrew McCutchen has a .238 batting average and 119 hits this season. Adrian Houser will start here and is 6-9 with a 4.62 ERA and 66 strikeouts this season.
St. Louis is 36-17 in their last 53 games overall and 5-11 in their last 16 games following an off day while the under is 9-4 in their last 13 road games against a team with a winning record. Milwaukee is 5-2 in their last 7 series openers and 11-5 in their last 16 home games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 division games.
I get the case to be made on either side in this game, but I think the better play here is the over. I don’t trust Miles Mikolas on the road as he’s been shelled more often than not recently away from Busch Stadium and Adrian Houser just hasn’t been able to settle down and pitch consistently for the Brewers for much of this season. All in all, I think this is a bit of a low total all things considered, so give me the over here.
