The Cincinnati Reds and the Miami Marlins meet Monday in MLB action from Marlins Park. The Reds are coming off a weekend set versus the Orioles. After a split in the first two games, in the Sunday rubber match Cincinnati eked out a victory. As for Miami, they just finished up against the Mets. The Marlins lost the first pair in that series, then on Sunday Miami fell again by six runs. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Cincinnati fell to the Orioles 6-2 on Friday, but then bounced back for an 8-2 victory on Saturday. In the Sunday finale, the Reds posted a 3-2 win on seven team hits. Starting pitcher Nick Lodolo went 6.0 frames with one earned on four hits and two walks.

For the starter gig on Monday, the Reds will send out Hunter Greene. In his 19 starts this season Greene is 3-12 with a 5.59 ERA. In 96.2 innings total he’s managed 60 earned on 91 hits and 41 walks with 119 Ks.

Over on the Marlins’ side, they lost to the Mets 6-4 in the Friday game, then fell again 4-0 in a shutout Saturday. On Sunday Miami gave up 19 hits (and had 10 themselves) in a 9-3 loss. Starter Pablo Lopez put up 2.2 innings with 12 hits and six earned.

As starting pitcher for the Monday opener, it’s looking like the Marlins will try to get Jesus Luzardo out there. Luzardo has been injured since May 10.

PICK: I may take a stab on the Reds here. Greene is 0-2 in his last three starts, but realistically he’s not pitching too badly (outside of four earned in 5.0 innings versus the Cardinals at Busch). In that trio combined, Greene has 17.1 innings with seven earned on 17 hits and eight walks. Cincinnati is going to have to get the bats going and give Greene some run support, but I think the team can make it work if all goes well.
