The Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins meet Friday in MLB action from Marlins Park. The Braves are coming off a pair of games versus the Red Sox this week. Atlanta managed to win both of those matchups. As for Miami, they just finished a series against the Phillies. After losses in the first two games, on Thursday the Marlins posted a shutout win. Atlanta didn’t have a ton of trouble versus the Red Sox this week, taking a 9-7 win in the Tuesday opener and an 8-4 victory in the Wednesday game. In game two, the Braves scored three runs in the fourth inning on the way to 12 team hits.
Jake Odorizzi will take the mound for the Braves on Friday. In 13 games Odorizzi is 4-4 with a 3.76 ERA this year.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they took a 4-1 loss to the Phillies on Tuesday and a 4-3 defeat in the Wednesday game. In the Thursday finale, Miami put up two runs in the sixth on the way to a 3-0 victory. Starter Edward Cabrera put up 5.2 frames with three hits and two walks.
Pablo Lopez will be the starter for Miami on Friday. Across his 22 starts this year Lopez is 7-7 with a 3.57 ERA. In 123.2 innings total he has 49 earned on 107 hits and 37 walks with 125 strikeouts.
PICK: I’m probably staying with the Braves here. Lopez had a good start versus Cincinnati back on July 26 with 7.0 innings and one earned on two hits in a victory. Since then however, Lopez has struggled. He’s got 10 earned runs over 7.2 innings total in his last two starts, giving up 21 hits and two walks in a pair of losses. I think Lopez will take a step forward in this opener, but not enough for Miami to control the game.
