The Kansas City Royals and the Cleveland Guardians meet Monday in MLB action from Progressive Field. This will be the fourth installment in a lengthy six-game series. After a split in the first pair, on Sunday the Guardians posted a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Kansas City took a 6-3 loss in the Friday opener of this series, but the team was able to bounce back Saturday for a 7-1 win. On Sunday the Royals gave up six runs in the second inning during a 7-5 loss. Max Castillo went 5.0 innings in the start with seven earned on eight hits and two walks.

For the starter job in the Monday game, the Royals will send out Zack Greinke. Over 25 starts this year Greinke is 4-9 with a 3.78 ERA. In 131.0 innings he has 55 earned on 150 hits and 26 walks with 72 Ks.

Over on the Guardians’ side, they were out-hit 12-8 in the Saturday loss and down 5-0 before they could muster a run. In the Sunday game Cleveland was out-hit 12-10 but still pulled off the win. Starter Shane Bieber finished on 5.0 innings, one earned, seven hits and a walk.

Triston McKenzie will take the mound for the Guardians on Monday. Over his 30 games (29 starts), McKenzie is 11-11 with a 2.99 ERA. In 186.1 innings total he has 62 earned on 134 hits and 44 walks with 186 Ks.

The Royals are 5-2 in their last seven Monday games and 17-38 in their last 55 road games. KC is 20-45 in their last 65 road games versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Guardians are 35-17 in their last 52 overall and 2-6 in their last eight in game four of a series. Cleveland is 5-1 in their last six Monday games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Cleveland. This should be a pretty good starter matchup, though. McKenzie has been pitching well lately with six earned in 21.0 innings over his last three starts. As for Greinke, he’s got four earned over his last three starts in 16.1 innings. Greinke is just 0-1 in that trio, however. If the Cleveland bats can give him a hand, I think McKenzie can get a win in a tight starter battle here.
