The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves meet Monday in MLB action from SunTrust Park. New York is coming off a series versus the Phillies over the weekend. After a split in the first pair, in the Sunday rubber match the Mets won in a shutout. As for the Braves, they played the Marlins in their last set. Atlanta won the first three games, then on Sunday the Braves took a two-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
New York played a couple of low-scoring affairs versus the Phillies: 2-1 Friday (loss) and 1-0 Saturday (win). On Sunday the Mets scored four runs in the fourth during a 6-0 win. Starter Chris Bassitt went 5.0 clean innings on four hits and two walks.
For the starter job in the Monday game the Mets will go with Carlos Carrasco. Over his 22 starts so far Carrasco is 13-4 with a 3.76 ERA. In 124.1 innings total he has 52 earned on 127 hits and 32 walks with 123 Ks.
Over on the Braves’ side, they took out the Marlins 4-3 Friday then 5-2 and 6-2 in the Saturday games. In the Sunday finale Atlanta bagged all their runs in the ninth during a 3-1 comeback win to complete the sweep. Bryce Elder managed 7.0 innings in the start with one earned, three hits and three walks alongside 10 Ks.
As the starting pitcher for Monday’s game, the Braves are sending out Spencer Strider. Over his 24 games (13 starts) this year Strider is 6-4 with a 3.11 ERA. In 89.2 innings total he has 31 earned, 60 hits, 34 walks and 138 Ks.
The Mets are 8-0 in their last eight Monday games and 20-6 in the last 26 overall. New York is 35-17 in their last 52 in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series and 46-19 in their last 65 overall. Atlanta is 49-24 in their last 73 at home.
PICK: I’m going to try the Mets in this one. Carrasco is rolling along pretty well these days. In his last three starts he’s got five earned total in 20.1 innings total on 15 hits and four walks. Carrasco won all three of those games as well, bagging 22 strikeouts along the way. I think he’ll have another good start in this one and put New York in a promising spot for a victory. Strider should bounce back from his last outing and do well here also. Should be a fun game.
