Virginia Tech vs Dayton 12/7/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Dayton Flyers and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Cassell Coliseum. Dayton is 5-4 overall this year. The Flyers beat Southeastern LA in their last game. Dayton went 3-1 over their first four games, beating Lindenwood, SMU and Robert Morris. The Flyers hit a 1-3 stretch after that however, losing to Wisconsin, NC State and BYU before a win versus Western Michigan. 

On Saturday versus Southeastern LA, the Flyers managed another victory. Dayton was down 38-37 at the break but scored 43 points from there in an 80-74 win. DaRon Holmes doubled up in the victory with 19 points and 12 boards. 

Over on the Virginia Tech side, they beat Delaware State, Lehigh, William & Mary, Old Dominion and Penn State in their first five before a loss to Charleston. The Hokies would then beat Charleston Southern, Minnesota and North Carolina in the next trio. 

In the matchup versus the Tar Heels on Sunday, Virginia Tech was up 37-27 by halftime. The Hokies scored 43 more points in the second for an 80-72 win. Justyn Mutts led the team with 27 points, 11 boards and four assists. 

PICK: I’ll stay with Virginia Tech. The Hokies are coming off a nice performance against a decent North Carolina team. Virginia Tech shot 50.8 percent from the field in that one and had a 39-25 rebounding advantage. The Hokies have had some close calls so far this year, but outside of the Charleston loss they’ve been doing great overall. As for Dayton, they’ve scored 75 or more points in two of their last three games. That said, I don’t think the Flyers will be able to keep up with Virginia Tech if the Hokies get going early.
