Saint Peter’s vs Fairfield 3/9/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Fairfield Stags and the Saint Peter’s Peacocks meet in college basketball action from the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Wednesday night.

The Fairfield Stags will look to build on a 72-50 opening round win over Canisius last time out. Taj Benning leads the Stags in scoring with 10.7 PPG along with 4.3 RPG and Jake Wojcik also has 9.5 PPG with 3.5 RPG while Supreme Cook has 10.3 PPG with a team-high 8.3 RPG this season, rounding out the pair of double-digit scorers for Fairfield so far this season. Caleb Green also has 7.5 PPG and a team-high 2.7 APG as well this season. As a team, Fairfield is averaging 67.9 PPG on 43.4% shooting from the field, 33.9% from three and 69.4% from the foul line while allowing 66.1 PPG on 43.1% shooting from the field and 32.8% from three this season.

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks come into the conference tournament as the #2 seed, finishing the year at 16-11 overall including a 14-6 mark in conference play. Daryl Banks III leads the Peacocks in scoring with 11.2 PPG and Fousseyni Drame also has 7.2 PPG with a team-high 6.9 RPG while KC Ndefo has 10.3 PPG with 6.2 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for the Peacocks this season. Doug Edert also has 8.9 PPG and Matthew Lee leads the Peacocks with 3.1 APG as well on the year. As a team, Saint Peter’s is averaging 66.9 PPG on 42.9% shooting from the field, 35% from three and 68.1% from the foul line while allowing 62.4 PPG on 39.1% shooting from the field and 30% from three this season.

I get the case to be made either way, as Fairfield have had time to shake off any rust and keep the momentum going. However, Saint Peter’s won both meetings convincingly this season, and Fairfield while being a solid team on the road, have had their issues in spots and the Peacocks have been a stumbling block for the Stags. I’ll side with Saint Peter’s in this one.
