Penn State vs Michigan State 12/7/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Michigan State Spartans and the Penn State Nittany Lions meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Bryce Jordan Center. Michigan State is 5-4 overall this year. The Spartans lost to Northwestern in their last outing. As for Penn State, they’re 6-2 and fresh off a loss to Clemson. Michigan State went 3-1 over the first four games this year, beating Northern Arizona, Kentucky and Villanova. The Spartans managed a 2-2 run over the next four, beating Oregon and Portland with losses to Alabama and Notre Dame. 

In Sunday’s matchup versus Northwestern, the Spartans were down 38-37 by halftime. Michigan State fell behind 32-26 from there and lost 70-63. Leading scorers Mady Sissoko and AJ Hoggard each had 12 points. 

Over on the Penn State side, they went 4-0 to start the year with wins over Winthrop, Loyola MD, Butler and Furman. The Lions were 2-2 in the next quartet, beating Colorado State and Lafayette with losses otherwise to Virginia Tech and Clemson. 

Matched up against Clemson last Tuesday, the Lions lost a 35-29 halftime lead and eventually lost 101-94 in double overtime. Camren Wynter had 26 points, Jalen Pickett had 23 and Seth Lundy doubled on 23 points and 12 boards. 

PICK: I’m probably sticking with Penn State. The Lions are coming off a tricky loss to a pretty good Clemson team, shooting 40.8 percent from the field with 43 rebounds and 12 assists. Penn State was pretty generous with shooting percentage in that one (50.8 percent) so we could have a shootout here if bot teams are on. That said, I think the Nittany Lions have enough offensive prowess to stay in front and cover here.
