The Tulsa Golden Hurricane and the Oregon State Beavers meet Monday in college basketball action from Gill Coliseum. Tulsa is coming off a 11-20 overall season last year, landing near the bottom of the AAC standings. As for Oregon State, they went just 3-28 in 2021-22 for a last-place finish in the Pac-12. Tulsa took a step backward in 2021-22, and their campaign was a forgettable one. The Hurricane went 11-20 overall and 4-14 in the AAC, landing just one spot above last place (South Florida) in the standings.

The Hurricane came out of non-conference play at 6-5, then won just one of their first 11 conference matchups. If there’s good news, it’s that Tulsa beat Wichita State in the first round of the AAC Tournament. The Hurricane fell to SMU in the next game, however.

Over on the Oregon State side, they couldn’t even come close to replicating their Cinderella run in the 2020-21 season (a Pac-12 championship and deep national tournament run). The Beavers managed a 3-28 overall record with a 1-19 conference mark for last place.

Oregon State beat Portland State in their opener last year, but wouldn’t see victories again until affairs versus Nicholls and Utah in late December. The Beavers lost out the rest of the season, and ultimately fell 78-67 to Oregon in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament.

Tulsa is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games and the over is 12-3 in their last 15 Monday games. Oregon State is 12-5 ATS in their last 17 Monday games and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 at home.

PICK: I’m leaning toward Oregon State here but probably staying away–it’s a coin-flip game. The Beavers have pretty much zero expectations entering this season, and the focus will be on forgetting last year’s horrible run. Head coach Wayne Tinkle enters his ninth season at the helm, and he’ll have to rely on guys like Dexter Akanno and Glenn Taylor for leadership on the court. There’s a lot of youth on the team; it wouldn’t be surprising to see a big step forward to double-digit wins if things pan out. It’s probably not worth messing with until we see the Beavers on the court for a couple of games, however.
