The New Orleans Privateers will travel to David R. Stopher Gymnasium to take on the Nicholls Colonels this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The New Orleans Privateers snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 17-11 on the season after defeating the Houston Baptist Huskies, 75-74, this past Wednesday. New Orleans trailed by a 53-36 margin early in the 2nd half, however, the Privateers were outstanding on the offensive end down the stretch and was able to take the lead for good after a Derek St. Hilaire layup gave New Orleans a 73-71 lead with 1:42 left in regulation. New Orleans shot 47.6% from the field & 20.0% from beyond the arc while allowing Houston Baptist to shoot 45.6% from the field & 44.4% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Privateers was Troy Green who had 28 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, & 1 steal.

On the season, New Orleans is averaging 77.3 ppg on 47.5% shooting from the field. The Privateers are averaging 4.2 three-pointers per game on 31.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, New Orleans has been led by Derek St. Hilaire (20.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.8 spg), Troy Green (15.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.8 spg), Simeon Kirkland (8.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.1 apg), & Daniel Sackey (6.6 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.8 apg).

Defensively, New Orleans is allowing their opponents to average 73.1 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Privateers have a rebound margin of -0.5 and a turnover margin of 0.7.

The Nicholls Colonels improved to 20-10 on the season after defeating the Texas A&M-CC Islanders, 86-75, this past Wednesday. Nicholls was outstanding offensively in the 2nd half and was able to pull away after taking an 80-69 lead with 2:35 left in regulation. Nicholls shot 54.1% from the field & 37.0% from beyond the arc. Nicholls shot 54.1% from the field & 37.0% from beyond the arc while allowing Texas A&M-CC to shoot 48.4% from the field & 38.9% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Colonels was Latrell Jones who had 19 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, & 3 steals.

On the season, Nicholls is averaging 79.2 ppg on 47.5% shooting from the field. The Colonels are averaging 8.2 three-pointers per game on 33.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Nicholls has been led by Ty Gordon (21.1 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.5 spg), Devante Carter (11.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.8 apg, 2.0 spg), Latrell Jones (11.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.0 spg), & Pierce Spencer (9.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.7 spg).

Defensively, Nicholls is allowing their opponents to average 70.9 ppg on 41.7% shooting from the field. The Colonels have a rebound margin of 2.5 and a turnover margin of 3.1.

The Privateers are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 games and 14-10-1 ATS overall on the season. The Colonels are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, however, are just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games.

This is a huge game for both teams as both New Orleans & Nicholls come into this game tied atop the Southland Conference with 10-3 conference records. New Orleans was able to pick up a win over Nicholls earlier this season, however, it’s been a struggle of the Privateers as of late with losses to both Southeastern LA. & Northwestern State to go along with near upset loss at home to the 9-17 Houston Baptist Huskies. Nicholls has won 9 of their last 10 games and between the fact that the Colonels are 10-1 at home and that I think their 23rd ranked scoring offense has plenty of success on their home court, I’m taking Nicholls to cover this large home spread. Good Luck!
