The Columbia Lions and the Marist Red Foxes meet Monday in college basketball action from McCann Arena. Columbia is 2-6 on the season so far and coming off a loss to Providence. As for Marist, they’re sitting at 2-4 on the year. The Foxes beat Bucknell in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Columbia started out the year with a three-game losing streak, falling to Rutgers, UMass Lowell and Sacred Heart. The Lions would go 2-2 over the next four, beating SUNY Maritime and Delaware State with losses to Maine and Binghamton otherwise.

On Saturday versus Providence, Columbia trailed 38-28 going into the second half. The Lions gave up 40 more points from there in a 78-64 win. Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa led the team on a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards.

Over on the Marist side, they were able to win their opener versus American 73-69. The Foxes hit a four-game losing streak after that, falling to Binghamton, Lehigh, Princeton and MD Eastern Shore.

In Saturday’s game versus Bucknell, Marist was able to stop their slide. The Foxes were outscored 30-27 in the second half and needed overtime to get a 60-54 win. Javon Cooley doubled up in that one with 13 points and 11 boards.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Columbia. The Lions didn’t look great in their loss to a good Friars team on Saturday but they weren’t downright awful. Columbia shot 38.7 percent from the field with 10-of-13 (76.9 percent) from the line and 36 rebounds. Prior to that game, Columbia had a nice run of scoring 70 or more points for five straight games. I like the Lions to get over that threshold against Marist and bag a cover.
