The Nevada Wolf Pack and the Loyola Marymount Lions meet Saturday in college basketball action from Gersten Pavilion. Nevada is 7-1 on the year thus far. The Wolf Pack beat Sam Houston in their last game. As for LMU, they’re 6-3 following a loss to Colorado State on Wednesday. Nevada didn’t have much trouble in their first five games, taking out Utah Tech, Grand Canyon, William Jessup, TX-Arlington and Tulane. The Wolf Pack took a loss to Kansas State in game six but bounced back with a win over Akron in their next outing.

On Monday versus Sam Houston, Nevada kept it rolling with another win. The Wolf Pack held a slim one-point lead by halftime but ended up with a 78-60 win after 49 second-half points. Jarod Lucas and Kenan Blackshear each notched 16 points in the victory.

Over on the LMU side, they went 2-2 over their first four games this year with wins over Life Pacific and UC Davis. The Lions hit a win streak over Georgetown, Wake Forest, Morgan State and Bellarmine in the next quartet.

On Wednesday versus Colorado State, the Lions trailed 32-27 at halftime. LMU fell further behind in the second and ended up with an 87-71 loss. Lead scorer Cameron Shelton posted 21 points with eight rebounds.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Nevada. The Wolf Pack have performed admirably so far this year, with their only blemish being a loss to a good Kansas State team. Nevada has done pretty well in both lower-scoring games and shootouts alike, so they’re a pretty well-rounded team on paper.

As for Loyola Marymount, they’ve got some nice wins on the card so far—as well as a head-scratching loss or two. The Lions should be able to put up a decent points total in this one; if Nevada is on point I think they’ll follow right along.
