The Wichita State Shockers and the Kansas State Wildcats meet Saturday in college basketball action from Bramlage Coliseum. Wichita State is 4-3 overall this year. The Shockers are coming off a loss to Missouri. As for Kansas State, they’re 6-1 on the season following a loss to Butler on Wednesday. Wichita State went 3-1 over their first four games this year. The wins in that stretch were versus Central Arkansas, Richmond and Grand Canyon. The Shockers were just 1-2 over their next three however, losing to San Francisco and Missouri.
In the Missouri game, the Shockers came back from a 43-36 halftime deficit to force overtime. Wichita State ended up losing 88-84 to the undefeated Tigers. Tops in scoring were Craig Porter and Jaykwon Walton with 14 points apiece.
Over on the Kansas State side, they were able to get through their first half-dozen games on an undefeated pace. The Wildcats took out UTRGV, California, UMKC, Rhode Island, Nevada and LSU in that time.
On Wednesday versus Butler, the Wildcats took their first loss. Kansas State was down 37-25 at the break and didn’t get closer in a 76-64 loss. Tops in scoring for the Wildcats was Keyontae Johnson with 20 points and 12 boards.
PICK: I’ll probably take a stab on Wichita State here. The Shockers played valiantly against a very good Missouri team in their last matchup, shooting 54.1 percent from the field, 41.4 percent from 3-point range, 41 rebounds and 19 team assists. Wichita State hit just 6-of-14 from the line however, and coughed up 20 turnovers to the Tigers’ eight.
As for Kansas State, they couldn’t hang with a hot-shooting Butler team in their last outing. The Wildcats had been playing with fire after the two-point win over LSU, however. This is going to be another tough matchup for Kansas State and it should be a fun game to watch. I like the Shockers to eke out a cover in a competitive matchup.
