The Omaha Mavericks and the Iowa Hawkeyes meet in college basketball action from Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Monday night.

The Omaha Mavericks will look to bounce back from a 71-61 loss to Ball State in their last game. Frankie Fidler leads the Mavericks in scoring with 13.3 PPG along with 5.5 RPG while Marquel Sutton has 12.8 PPG with 4.8 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Omaha up to this point in the year. Jaeden Marshall has 9.5 PPG while Kennedy Brown has a team-high 5.7 RPG and JJ White has a team-high 4.8 APG so far this year. As a team, Omaha is averaging 66.3 PPG on 40.7% shooting from the field, 28.8% from three and 76.7% from the foul line this season.

The Iowa Hawkeyes will hope to build on their 83-67 win over Seton Hall from their last matchup. Kris Murray leads the Hawkeyes in scoring with 21.7 PPG along with 8.3 RPG while Patrick McCaffery has 14.7 PPG with 5.3 RPG and Tony Perkins has 13.3 PPG with a team-high 5.3 APG to lead the Hawkeyes in the assist department. Filip Rebraca also has 11 PPG with a team-high 8.7 RPG to lead the Hawkeyes on the glass while Payton Sandfort has 10.7 PPG to cap off the scoring in double figures for Iowa up to this point in the year. As a team, Iowa is averaging 94.7 PPG on 49% shooting from the field, 37.5% from three and 77% from the foul line this season.

Omaha is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a double-digit loss at home while the over is 20-8 in their last 28 games overall. Iowa is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games while the over is 9-1-1 in their last 11 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400.

I get the reasoning for backing an underdog in some spots, but as much as this is a big number, it’s entirely one that’s coverable by Iowa. The Mavericks will try to slow down the pace, but I’m not sure it’ll matter against Iowa who can bury any opponent in a matter of minutes when the shots are falling. I just don’t see any way Omaha keeps pace here so give me the Hawkeyes.
