The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Indiana Hoosiers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Bloomington Assembly Hall. The Tar Heels are 5-2 on the year so far. North Carolina took a loss to Alabama in their last game. As for Indiana, they’re 6-0 this season and fresh off a win over Jackson State. North Carolina got off to a 5-0 start this year. The Tar Heels took out UNC Wilmington, Charleston, Gardner-Webb, James Madison and Portland in their first five. Game six was a 70-65 loss to Iowa State.
On Sunday versus Alabama, North Carolina took their second loss of the year. The Tar Heels fought through four overtime periods but ultimately lost 103-101 in a rough outcome. Caleb Love scored 34 points, and Armando Bacot doubled on 20 points and 10 boards.
Over on the Indiana side, it’s been smooth sailing so far. Through this 6-0 start, the Hoosiers have taken out Morehead State, Bethune-Cookman, Xavier, Miami-OH, Little Rock and Jackson State in succession.
In the Jackson State game, Indiana didn’t have too much trouble. The Hoosiers were up 44-28 by halftime and cruised to a 90-51 blowout win. Tamar Bates led the way on 22 points, and Xavier Johnson added 16 points.
PICK: I’m going to try Indiana here, but you could make a great case either way. This will certainly be the Hoosiers’ toughest test of the season, but the team is doing well so far. Indiana shot a blistering 57.6 percent from the field and 10-of-22 (45.5 percent) from 3-point range in their blowout win over Jackson State. The Hoosiers have been scoring well with 81 or more points in every game, so they’re certainly ready for this test.
As for North Carolina, they’re coming off a rough loss despite a valiant effort versus Alabama. This will be the Tar Heels’ third ranked opponent in a row and should be another close game. I like this one to go down to the wire in a high-scoring, entertaining affair. Should be a great matchup to watch.
