The USC Trojans and the Cal Golden Bears meet in college basketball action from the Haas Pavilion on Wednesday night.

The USC Trojans will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 64-59 loss to Wisconsin in their last game. Boogie Ellis leads the Trojans in scoring with 18 PPG along with 3.3 RPG and 2.3 APG while Drew Peterson has 15 PPG with team-highs of 8.1 RPG and 6.6 APG to lead the Trojans in rebounding and assists as the only other double-digit scorer for USC this season. Joshua Morgan also has 6.6 RPG and Reese Dixon-Waters has 9 PPG and 3.3 RPG. As a team, USC is averaging 72.3 PPG on 45.8% shooting from the field, 32.8% from three and 68.1% from the foul line this season.

The Cal Golden Bears will look to bounce back and find their first win of the year after a 67-59 loss to Clemson last time out. Devin Askew leads the Golden Bears in scoring and assists with 16.7 PPG and 3.3 APG while Lars Thiemann has 12.6 PPG with a team-high 6.7 RPG to lead the Golden Bears on the glass as the only other double-digit scorer for Cal up to this point in the season. As a team, Cal is averaging 58.4 PPG on 40.8% shooting from the field, 29.2% from three and 76.7% from the foul line this season.

USC is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record. Cal is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 Wednesday games while the under is 21-5-2 in their last 28 Wednesday games.

I get the case to be made for either side here, but I’m sticking with USC, even if it’s more of a fade of Cal than anything else. The run likely won’t last forever, but until Cal shows any vital signs, there’s really no backing the Golden Bears at all. USC hasn’t been great, but they’ve been good enough, especially against the teams they should beat and I feel that Cal is in that mix. Give me the Trojans here.
