The Air Force Falcons and the Bowling Green Falcons meet in college basketball action from the Stroh Center on Monday.

The Air Force Falcons come into the 2022-23 season looking to bounce back from a frustrating 2021-22 season, finishing at 11-18 overall with a 4-13 mark in Mountain West conference play. The Falcons will be hoping to get some role players from last year to step up now that leading scorer from last year AJ Walker has graduated. Air Force will also need to replace Joseph Octave who disappeared into the transfer portal. The good news is that Jake Heidbreder returns after logging 10.4 PPG last season and Ethan Taylor also returns as the team’s point guard after chipping in 8.6 PPG and a team-high 3.7 APG last season. Air Force is in a good spot to progress, but only time will tell if they can make a big enough move to shake up the Mountain West.

The Bowling Green Falcons will be out to take a step forward after a 2021-22 season that saw Bowling Green finish 13-18 with a 6-14 mark in MAC conference play, missing out on the conference tournament as only the top 8 teams qualify in the MAC. Bowling Green has some retooling to do from last year’s lineup that was one of the highest-scoring in the country, losing Daeqwon Plowden (15.7 PPG, 6.8 RPG) and Myron Gordon (11.3 PPG, 3.3 APG) as well as Trey Diggs (9.5 PPG, 4.6 RPG) and Joseph Reece (11.2 PPG), but Bowling Green did snag Leon Ayers III as a transfer from Duquesne that logged 10 PPG last season while also hoping for a healthy season and a clean bill of health from sophomore guard Kaden Matheny. The goal for Bowling Green this year will be staying healthy as injuries derailed the team last year, but if they stay healthy, Bowling Green could be poised to make a move in the MAC this year.

Air Force is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 9-3 in their last 12 road games. Bowling Green is 14-34-3 ATS in their last 51 home games and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall while the over is 9-2 in their last 11 home games.

This is an interesting clash of styles, as Air Force is usually a defense first kind of team, while Bowling Green likes to play games into the 70s and 80s. That being said, I think Air Force’s style will win out here, as there’s just a lot of turnover for Bowling Green here and I think it’s going to be a bit of a learning experience on the fly for Bowling Green. This game could be the first to 60 wins. Give me the under.
