Arizona vs Southern 11/11/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southern Jaguars and the Arizona Wildcats meet Friday in college basketball action from McKale Center. Southern is 0-1 so far following a 10-point loss to UNLV in their opener. Southern managed to go 17-14 overall last season. The Jaguars managed a 12-6 record in the SWAC games, putting them behind only Alcorn State and Texas Southern in the standings. Southern’s season ended with a loss to Grambling State in the conference tourney. 

In their first game of the season on Monday versus UNLV, the Jaguars were down 33-25 by halftime. Southern limped to a 66-56 loss. The team’s only double-digit scorer was Bryson Etienne with 25 points, two rebounds and two assists. 

Over on the Arizona side, they had a pretty successful campaign in 2021-22. The Wildcats went 33-4 overall and 18-2 in the Pac-12 for both a regular-season and a conference tournament championship. Arizona made it to the Sweet Sixteen in the national tournament. 

The Wildcats got off to a strong start versus Nicholls State, scoring 59 points in the first half and 58 more after the break for a 117-75 win. Azuolas Tubelis led the team on 23 points, and Pelle Larsson doubled up on 16 points and 10 boards. 

PICK: I’m going to stay with Arizona. The Wildcats drilled an overmatched Nicholls State team in their opener, shooting a scorching 71.7 percent from the field and 61.1 percent from 3-point range. Arizona made 30 of their 40 free throws, collected 44 rebounds and notched 30 assists. Outside of the 24 turnovers, it was a pretty outstanding effort. As for Southern, they didn’t shoot especially well versus UNLV and it’s going to get a whole lot more difficult in this one.
