Arizona State opened up their year with a matchup versus Northern Arizona, taking a 40-3 blowout victory. The Sun Devils had trouble with Oklahoma State in game two and fell 34-17. Game three was another loss, this time 30-21 to Eastern Michigan.

In the Utah game, Arizona State was down 24-6 going into the second half and limped to the 34-13 loss. QB Emory Jones managed 261 yards with one TD and two picks. Elijhah Badger added 76 yards off five catches.

Over on the USC side, they didn’t have any trouble versus Rice in their 2022 opener during a 66-14 win, and the Trojans kept it going in game two with a 41-28 win over Stanford. Game three was another win 45-17 over Fresno State.

On Saturday versus Oregon State, USC scored 14 points in the fourth quarter on the way to a 17-14 win. QB Caleb Williams managed 180 yards and a TD, while Travis Dye led the rush with 133 yards and a score. Tahj Washington was tops in receiving with 67 yards from six grabs.

The Sun Devils are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 on grass and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS loss. Arizona State is 1-4 ATS versus a team with a wining record.
Meanwhile, the Trojans are 1-6 ATS in their last seven conference games and 1-4 ATS in the last five in October. USC is 2-5 ATS versus a team with a losing record.

PICK: I’m staying with USC, but it’s admittedly a thick line. The Trojans were playing with fire over the weekend against a solid Oregon State team, but they ended up powering out a nice victory in the end. USC finished with 357 total yards, 21 first downs and came up with four turnovers. It was a relatively tepid offensive performance overall, though.

As for Arizona State, they were dominated in most facets by Utah over the weekend and predictably lost big. The Sun Devils haven’t scored more than 21 points for three straight weeks—though they’ve gone up against a couple of very good teams in that span.
