Florida State vs Oklahoma 12/29/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Florida State Seminoles meet Thursday, December 29 in college football Cheez-It Bowl action from Camping World Stadium. Oklahoma is 6-6 overall this year. The Sooners lost a close one to Texas Tech in their last outing. As for Florida State, they’re sitting at 9-3 overall and coming off a win over Florida. Oklahoma won their first three games of the season, then hit a losing streak versus Kansas State, TCU and Texas. The next six games were a 3-3 run as well. The Sooners fell to Baylor, West Virginia and Texas Tech in that stretch. 

Back on November 26 versus Texas Tech, the Sooners scored in every quarter during a wild overtime finish but ended up losing 51-48. QB Dillon Gabriel threw for 449 yards and six scores, while Marvin Mims caught five balls for 162 yards and two touchdowns. 

Over on the Florida State side, they won their first four games of the year, then fell to Wake Forest, NC State and Clemson in succession. Florida State finished off the season with five straight wins, culminating in a victory over Florida. 

Matched up against the Gators on November 25, Florida State trailed 24-21 at the break. The Seminoles posted 17 points in the third quarter and hung on for the 45-38 win. QB Jordan Travis had 270 yards and a TD, but Trey Benson did most of the work on 111 rush yards and three scores. 

The Sooners are 5-1 ATS in their last six neutral-site games and 4-1 ATS in their last five bowl games. Oklahoma is 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall.
Meanwhile, the Seminoles are 4-0 ATS in their last four on turf and 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss. Florida State is 4-1 ATS in their last five in December. 

PICK: I may take a stab on Oklahoma here. The Sooners are fresh off a shootout versus Texas Tech. Oklahoma posted 672 total yards (462 passing) with 27 first downs. Unfortunately they also gave up 599 yards to the Red Raiders in the OT loss. The Sooners have had a dud game or two this year (like the Texas shutout) but generally they’re scoring pretty well. They’ve posted 27 points or more in five of their last six. 

As for Florida State, they had a good offensive showing themselves in the Florida win. The Seminoles managed 497 yards (227 rushing) along the way. This is looking like a pretty high-scoring game, and if Oklahoma can keep the ball moving I think they’ve got a good shot at a cover.
